Munnar

Ooty may be the most popular hill station in South India, but Munnar might just as well be the quietest and greenest. This is the heart of tea gardens in the South where serene waters of lakes and the serpentine roads come together for a truly peaceful experience. No wonder this was the summer capital during the British Era.

Munnar Must Visit Places
The best way to explore Munnar is on bicycles which are easily available on rent. Most resorts will arrange for a visit to the tea gardens where you can witness everything from plucking of the leaves to the machine pressed packaging of tea bags. South India’s highest peak, Anamudi, is also situated here, and is a trekker’s paradise. Other nice treks include Lockheart Gap which offers a panoramic view of the lush surroundings. 7 kms from Munnar is Devikulam where the Sita Devi Lake has great boating facilities. You can also head to Mattupetty which has a camping ground and picnic spot on the banks of the eponymous lake and dam. Munnar is home to the endangered Nilgiri tahr which is protected in the Eravikulam National Park. Visitors have to follow a strict code of conduct.

Munnar's Famous Cuisines
Apart from the traditional eateries that have a typical Keralite spread, you can also savour chilli fries and banana roast – a local delicacy. Restaurants in the exclusive resorts often serve more diverse and exotic food. However, it is the tea that you really must try in all different forms when you visit Munnar.

Munnar Markets
On your trip to the tea plantations, be sure to stock up on some fresh tea bags. Shopping options are very negligible here which adds to the quietness of the place. Some resorts have their own curio shops selling jewellery, souvenirs, and clothes.
