Gangabal Trek Tour Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrive Srinagar
On arrival at Srinagar airport or bus station, our representative will meet you. With displaying your name card and transfer to your houseboat. Rest of the day is at your leisure. Stay overnight at Houseboat in Kashmir. (In case of any difficulty call us on our 24 x 7 No. +91 9810383473).

Day 2 : Srinagar to Sonamarg
This morning after breakfast drive to Sonmarg. The route goes through the villages of ganderbal, kangan, Gund and kulan en route to sonamarg, which is the last large village in the Kashmir valley on the way to leh. Kangan is the point at which you will rejoin the srinagar road when you come down through wangat. Sonamarg is at an altitude of 2740 meters. Overnight at Tent in Sonamarg.

Day 3 : Sonamarg to Nichinai
This morning after breakfast you will start the trek to Nichinai. En-route the river and past the Shikari bridge. The trail leaves the bank of the Sindh river and climbs towards the stone water mill up the left side of the mountain. From here it’s a steep climb up the Galwanbal, a forest – covered mountain, to the top at an altitude of 3109 meters. From here the trail climbs gently through the Hirmapathri meadows, to an altitude of 3658 meters, and the Nichinai Nar stream. The trail then follows the narrow, steep valley of the nichinai to the nichinai pass at 4080 meters. There is a glacier on either side of the valley here, and to the east lies the Bushkapatri range, while to the west lies the Sahnai range, covered in glaciers and snow beds. Nichinai is at 3620 meters, 900 meters above Sonamarg. Overnight at Tent in Nichinai.

Day 4 : Nichinai to Vishansar
This morning after breakfast you will start the trek to Nichnai. which is the 4080 meters Nichinai Ridge then follow the river before over the pass to vishansar lake at 3680 meters and reach the camp at 3810 meters. The lake lies in the widest part of the valley at the foot of the glacier. The slopes on the south – eastern side of the mountains are ideal for camping. The lake is just over a km long and about half a km wide. It’s stocked with trout, but as it’s within a national park, fishing permits are required. Overnight at Tent in Vishansar.

Day 5 : Vishensar to Krishansar & Gadsar
This morning after breakfast you will start the trek to Gadsar. En-route you will visit the Krishansar at 3818 meters. Huddled within the small narrow valley, Krishansar usually has icebergs floating in it even as late as August. From here the trek begins with a steep climb to the Krishansar Gali, (4191m), followed by a rapid descent over snow to Yemsar, the ‘lake of death, about 200 meters below. During the decent there is a string of tarns, which in spring and early summer are surrounded by blossoming wildflowers. Around a bend in the trail the beautiful gadasar Lake at 3900 meters suddenly appears. Glaciers from the surrounding peaks come almost down to the lake, which is circular and surrounded on three sides. The fourth side is a grassy slope, covered with flowers; a good spot for camping. From here the track descends gradually along the bank of the gadasar to the mounth of the gorge at the foot of Mt Kasturgrand, the home of Kastura or musk deer. Overnight at Tent in Gadsar.

Day 6 : Gadsar to Dubta Pani
This morning after breakfast you will start the trek to Dubta Pani, where the stream goes underground and reappears at the foot of the gorge about a km below. Overnight at Tent in Dubta Pani.

Day 7 : Dubta Pani to Gangabal Lake
This morning after breakfast you will start the trek to Gangabal Lake. En-route you will visit the Satsaran Lake (3600m). The path continues across the rocky valley floor and ascends to the Satsaran Gali pass (3680m), from where you have fine views of the lake. From the pass the route descends for about 100 meters and then begins a steep 500 meters climb on the right to the Zagibal Pass (4081m). A sharp ascent of about one km brings you the spot where the Gangabal valley comes into the view. The pass commands magnificent views of Mt. Haramukh. The descent to the valley is about 600 meters down a gradual, grassy slope to the banks of the lakes. The lake is fed by melt from the glacier which splits in two on one of the flanks of Haramukh. Overnight at Tent in Gangabal Lake.

Day 8 : Gangabal Free Day
Today is the free day for rest or Rainbow Trout Fishing at Gangabal lakes or full day visit to Lul Gul pass where from you can see beautiful view of Nanga Parbat. Overnight at Tent in Gangabal Lake.

Day 9 : Gangabal Lake to Wangat
This morning after breakfast you will start the trek to Wangat. En-route you will visit the primitive stone and wood bridge that crosses the swiftly flowing and painfully cold Mung-Shungun Nullah. The trail then follows the river valley before climbing to the right, crossing a small ridge and coming out at Trunkul, or ‘field of grass’, a beautiful meadow which is usually crowded with the Gujar nomads and their herds. From here we follow the Naranag route that sometimes is slippery. The small meadow looks down into the valley of the Sindh. From here there is steep descent of almost 1200 metres over sedimentary slate. Some of the path is rocky and slippery, but it also winds through the fragrent fir and pine forests down towards the green valley of the Kranki Nadi. At the foot of this descent is the small village of Naranag, Here in the village are ruins of some Buddhist temples built by Jaluka, who was one of the son of Emperor Ashoka, The ruins are composed of massive and tightly fitted stone blocks, formed into large temple complex. There is a huge bath about five metres long and two meters broad and almost 2 meters deep, carved from single block of stone. Nearby, a spring said to have magical healing powers, issues from a large pool beneath the mountain slope. Overnight at Tent in Wangat.

Day 10 : Wangat to Srinagar
This morning after breakfast you will drive to Srinagar, On arrival check into your houseboat, Rest of the day is at your leisure. Stay overnight at Houseboat in Kashmir.

Day 11 : Srinagar Airport for Onward Journey
Today you will be transferred to Srinagar Airport for your onward journey.
